True Life Stories

avoid being ripped off in Bulgaria!

.

Shopping
.

.I find that I need to keep an eye on some of my local shops.

.

.Most are fine but there are a odd few just keep increasing prices

.until they get caught (or at least that's the way it seems).

.

.I used to buy quite a bit from a local DIY type shop.

.

.The owner was friendly enough and always gave me a receipt

.when I bought anything.

.

.The stock was well laid out and every item priced.

.

.Then I noticed that he stopped giving receipts unless I asked for them,

.and even then the receipt that I was given would be hand written.

.

.A local man told me that this shop was charging me around twice

.the going rate.

.

.Next time I was in there I asked for a receipt.

.

.I was given a receipt and careful checked it, as I had bought the same

.items just last month, when the stock was clearly labelled.

.

.I was surprised to find I was paying just over twice the going rate.

.

.Here's how it works:

.

.The shop keeper buys a book of receipts from the local stationary shop

.(I know as I bought a book of receipts to check and sure enough

.there the same ones).

.

.When you ask for a receipt they give you a hand written receipt,

.when you leave they simply print out the official receipt

.and pocket the difference.

.

.This happens quite a lot, even in places where you would think

.it would not happen.

.

.If you don't get a receipt, ask for one. If you are given a written receipt

.it might not be the true price.

.

.Having said that, most of the shops are very good - the correct change,

.a printed receipt and a cheery smile!
